The easy answer to this is that Reading Eggs Homeschool Max is not Christian. If I had to put a label on the program, it would be neutral.

If you've been following me long enough, then you know that I have a strong opinion about Christian education, believing that Christian homeschoolers should teach everything from a Christian perspective. My opinion doesn't change because I use this program.
It's important to note that while Reading Eggs Homeschool Max can be used as a full literature curriculum for Elementary, we don't use it that way. We use the program as a supplemental part of our schooling.
Not only are we a low-tech family, but we're very hands-on in our homeschool. Lots of readalouds and discussions happen within these walls. Here’s how we use Reading Eggs Homeschool Max in our daily rhythm:
Morning Basket (Prayer, Bible, Readalouds, extras), Science, Geography, and History are done family style in our homeschool. Typically, prayer and Bible happen at breakfast time then we move to Handwriting while we work on our History/Geography reading. From there, if we're still working on handwriting we may move to Science. If kids are wiggly, we'll start independent work.
Independent Work Blocks
Our independent work blocks are vital to our homeschool. Typically, my older kids can handle Literature, Math, Latin, etc. and then I spend this one-on-one time with my littles. I start with my oldest little while the others do chores, have playtime, or a snack. Then work my way downward.
I use these work blocks to focus on Math and Literature with my elementary kids. It starts with one-on-one learning with our chosen curriculum and then when that is done I give that learner some supplementary work (like Reading Eggs) while I work with another learner.
Afternoon Free Time
Once their main lessons are done, we shift into nature study, creative projects, or field trips. Because Homeschool Max is so efficient, it frees up space for the great things we actually want to do.

Is It a Good Fit?

It may not be a great fit if:
- You’re screen-free by choice
- You have more than 4 kids and want to avoid multiple subscriptions
- You prefer 100% offline, literature-based programs with no tech involved
Making Reading Eggs even more Homeschool friendly…
As a low-tech family, there are a couple of things that I did to our Reading Eggs account to ensure that it stays educationally gamified, but not just play. Most of these have to be edited per child.
- I turned off the Games/Arcade.
The games arcade is where children can use their rewards to play arcade-style games- I turned this off because I don't want screen-time to be spent here. I'd prefer that the time is spent actually learning. - I turned off the Playroom.
The playroom is where early learners can explore games, activities and videos. Again, I turned this off for the same reason above. - I turned Reading Eggs Junior off.
This isn't needed for my kids (they are beyond this level and I can't recommend screen-learning at 2-4 anyways), so I turned it off to minimize the distractions. - Do the placement tests first.
This is a big deal! You want to ensure that the time is well-spent, so you'll want to take the placement tests so that your child is on their level. - Assign material daily.
This isn't necessary, but if you want to be sure that your child completes what they should in a timely manner, you'll want to be sure that their assignments are set. By doing this, all areas are locked down until their assignments are complete.
Final Thoughts
Homeschool Max is the first online program I’ve found that actually fits the family-style homeschool setting I love. It gives me structure without being rigid, tools without being overwhelming, and flexibility without sacrificing quality.
Don't want to use the assignments? You don't have to! Your child's placement is where they will begin each series, and you can still see their reports and student results as they complete each level. It's a great way to keep an eye on your child's progress- and even easier if you have to report to your state!
